OVERVIEW
Tiolez is a proud Kingdom of knights and nobles, who adhere to a rigid sense of honor, in all things.
The commoners have no power, but those in command are rigorously self-critical, and there are no secrets among the ruling class.
They fought and died with foolish chivalry during the Soul Wars, only surviving through the power of the Beacons.
CHARACTERS
SIR ZION OF TIOLEZ
Profile:
Zion is a valiant knight of Tiolez, who was born a commoner but made his way to knighthood through extreme perseverance.
He volunteered to go into the Aeon Ruins, knowing that the other Explorers would require his aid. He planted the Beacon in the Lighthouse Dock, making it a safe haven for all Explorers.
Quest:
Zion has no quest, but is a representative of Tiolez, and therefore encourages the player to swear loyalty to the Tiolez Kingdom and aid fellow Explorers against the horrors of the Ruins.
DIALOGUE
FIRST CONVERSATION
"Ah, aren't you a sight for sore eyes. I am Sir Zion, of the valiant land of Tiolez! And who you are, is plain to see."
"A fresh face, a strong arm, a brave soul!"
"I sense the potential for greatness in you, my friend. Do not let it go to waste!"
"Unity in arms!"
SECOND CONVERSATION
"Do you... sometimes find some challenges insurmountable?"
"Never fear, for there is no obstacle that cannot be overcome if you work together!"
"We knights of Tiolez never leave an ally behind, even if it means our own deaths."
"Might you be willing to join us? To trust in your fellow Explorers?"
>Yes
"Ah, wonderful! I hereby dub you a Knight of Tiolez!"
"Go forth, and never let your loyalty falter!"
>No
"Haha, no hard feelings? I see that your loyalties must lie elsewhere."
"I look forward to seeing your strength flourish!"
THIRD CONVERSATION
"Sadly, not all Explorers have the spirit of cooperation in them. Some are malicious, and only wish to claim the Souls of others."
"The foul exploits of Motus and Vestum... Kingdoms most corrupt and volatile... are common knowledge in Tiolez."
"Now that Wuuheim is gone, there is no one to keep them in check."
"My policy is one of kindness... but I have no love of malice. Steer clear of their adherents, my friend."
FOURTH CONVERSATION
"You may meet my fellows, in your travels. Other Knights of Tiolez, brimming with honor, of course."
"Sir Ishild, a skilled craftsman as well as swordsman, came here with me. He ventured further in, and I haven't seen him since."
"To be honest, I am glad to be rid of him. His voice and behavior... it is the stuff of nightmares. But I would not question his valor."
"There was another, in decorated armor. He was so eager to delve into the Ruins, I never even got his name. If you meet him, make sure he's alright, will you?"
"I worry sometimes."
FIFTH CONVERSATION
"The Beacons... are symbols of unity."
"After the war, we distributed them out equally to the Kingdoms, so they too could bask in the light."
"That's right... they are indeed a shameful product of war. The Beacons were created as weapons."
"In this time of strife, their light shines stronger than ever! And with those strange stones, even the bodies of the dead can be restored."
"But these towers... they look so similar to the Beacons."
"I must wonder why... It is like an itching, in the back of my mind..."
SIXTH CONVERSATION AND ONWARDS
"Alright. Enough doom and gloom, then."
"If nothing else, keep this in mind."
"Never be afraid to try new things, to join with new people."
"The whole world is in peril, and no matter what kingdom you come from, another will always welcome you."
"Burn no bridges, and there will always, always be a way out."

MAGIC KNIGHT ORION
Art by Khordal
Profile:
Orion is a knight of Tiolez, who is of noble blood, and thus has a rudimentary knowledge of magic.
As a child, he idealized the chivalrous knights, and sought to become one of them, dubbing himself 'The Magic Knight'.
When he heard of the Phantasm, and the fall of Wuuheim, he leaped into action, running away from home in hopes of becoming a hero.
Quest:
THE MANY DEATHS OF THE MAGIC KNIGHT
Orion's journey is one fraught with failure, with the bumbling knight dying at every turn.
In order to proceed, he often relies on the player's aid, whether that involves foiling a trap, clearing an area of enemies, lending him an item, and even helping him defeat a boss.
He slowly becomes more patient and competent, even aiding you. Lead his quest to its completion, and he will join you at Wuuheim's Ascent for the final battle.
First Encounter: Highlands District: Orion introduces himself, then charges with reckless abandon at a horde of Shades. He passes over a bridge that immediately falls to pieces, causing him to fall to his death.
Second Encounter: Highlands District: After defeating the Vapor Guard, you meet Orion again before the start of the Mansion of Dusk. He admits he was in over his head, and sheepishly gives you the Resonance Soapstone, with the request that you aid him in combat at a later point.
Third Encounter: Sanguine Court: He asks to fight alongside you against a trio of Shadow Armors. He takes his sweet time dropping down, but acts as if he actually helped.
Fourth Encounter: Necropolis: You find Orion screaming his way down the halls, being pursued by an Organ Golem. If you kill it, he rewards you with a Proof of Survival and a Phantasmic Eye. If it kills him, he uses the Phantasmic Eye and the quest continues.
Optional Encounter: Hill of the Skylights: He places a Soul Beacon near the World Eater, calling you for aid. Defeating the World Eater alongside him will net you a Soul Syphon.
Fifth Encounter: Sea of Souls: Orion simply gazes out at the sea, awestruck.
Second Optional Encounter: If you are offline, you fight Orion as the Otherworldly Warrior. If you've completed enough of his Encounters sufficiently, he throws the fight.
Sixth Encounter: Monolith of Fate: Orion, in Soul form, begs you for a Phantasmic Eye. If it is not given, he fades away.
Final Encounter: Wuuheim's Ascent: If you've encountered him at least five times and he has not faded away and you have not killed him, he appears in body form near the end of Wuuheim's Ascent. He muses about the nature of life and the Ruins, and fights against Soulless Leocadius with you.
DIALOGUE
-FIRST ENCOUNTER (AT HIGHLANDS DISTRICT)
FIRST CONVERSATION
"Aha! A fellow Explorer! How do you do?"
"A dismal place, is it not? Perfect for heroes such as ourselves!"
"But I have forgotten my manners. I am known as the Magic Knight, Orion!"
"Surely you've heard of me. No? Well, no matter. Look yonder, at that collection of Shades. Ah, so many! A perfect demonstration."
"Stand back, and watch! My magic blade will tear those abominations to pieces! Have at thee!"
WHEN FALLING TO HIS DEATH
"Oh... oh nooooo!"
-SECOND ENCOUNTER (LATER IN THE HIGHLANDS DISTRICT)
FIRST CONVERSATION
"Hehehe... I bet you thought you had seen the last of me, eh?"
"The Beacons... can do wonders for the Soul. They're of Tiolez make, of course. My homeland..."
"Oi, what's wrong with me?! Where has my valor gone, leaving me homesick so soon? You must think I'm pitiful for someone who claims to be a hero."
"I suppose I'm merely discouraged, that's all... death can do that to a person."
SECOND CONVERSATION
"Hmm? Still there? I figured someone strong like you would've moved on by now. But maybe... I've misjudged you."
"Here, take this. Time, like many things in this place, seems broken and muddled. With these, our Souls can resonate, and pierce through the shadows dividing us."
>Gives the Resonance Soapstone.
"Unity in arms! That is the cry of the Tiolez Knights. Remember it well, for cooperation is the only true path to peace."
THIRD CONVERSATION AND ONWARDS
"Go on ahead. Light the way ahead for me, won't you?"
"Alone, my blade is dull. But I look forward to fighting by your side."
-THIRD ENCOUNTER (AT THE SANGUINE COURT)
FIRST CONVERSATION
"Gah! Don't sneak up on me like that! I nearly jumped out of my armor!"
"Speaking of armor, those armored blokes down there don't look pleasant one bit."
"What say you we band together, and tackle this challenge as a team?"
>Yes:
"Alright! Go on, lead the charge, and I'll cover your rear."
>No:
"Well, um, alright. That's fine. I'll just... wait here. I'll be a lookout! Those are important too, you realize."
BEFORE JUMPING DOWN
"What are you waiting for? Go on, let's pummel them!"
AFTER ALL SHADOW ARMORS DEFEATED
"Hoo... haa..."
"Quite the brawl, wouldn't you say? I'm quite winded."
"What- are you trying to say that I was no help? I'm insulted!"
"I'll have you know that I was only waiting for the opportune time to flank them! It's common sense!"
"...Alright, perhaps I was not as brave as I could have been. But I'll make it up to you, I swear!"
"The Magic Knight Orion will prove a valuable ally!"
ONWARDS
"This castle almost reminds me of home. Knights surely lived here, once upon a time."
"But no longer, I see. They are but a memory now, like everything else here."
-FOURTH ENCOUNTER (AT THE NECROPOLIS)
WHILE FLEEING
"Aaaaaaagh! Someone, anyone, help me!"
"Wretched beast!"
AFTER RESCUE
"Oh... is it gone? That stinking golem?"
"Thank the stars... I thought it was all over there for a second. Er, again, I mean."
"Don't misunderstand. No matter how little it's worth, I do owe you my life. Here, take these."
>Gives Phantasmic Eye and Proof of Survival
"To the victor go the spoils, eh?"
ONWARDS
"That'll teach me to pilfer from graves..."
"Hm, what? No, I wasn't saying anything! Must be, uh, one of those Shades."
-FIFTH ENCOUNTER (AT THE SEA OF SOULS)
FIRST CONVERSATION
"This... this place. It's..."
"It's alive, isn't it? Breathing in and out with the waves."
"It will wash us away, like footprints in sand."
"I can feel its heartbeat in my very soul..."
SECOND CONVERSATION AND ONWARDS
"I'll go no further."
"Proceed if you must, but if must venture into those waters, I..."
"I cannot bear it. I am sorry."
-SIXTH ENCOUNTER (AT THE MONOLITH OF FATE)
UPON APPROACH
"Ah! It's you, my savior. Please, don't go!"
"I know I have asked much of you, but I'm afraid I must ask for one last request."
"As you can see, this place has taken its toll on me. Neither my magic nor my blade are up to snuff, I've found."
"But you have given me courage. I have soldiered on, but death after countless death has left me bereft of Phantasmic Eyes."
"Please, do you have any to spare? Any at all?"
>Yes:
"Ah... yes, I feel my blood flowing once more. I thank you."
"I will trouble you no longer. It has come time for The Magic Knight to live up to his own name and birthright."
"The next time we meet, my friend, it will be I who aids you. Mark my words."
>No or Lack Phantasmic Eyes
"I... see. Forgive me my intrusion."
"This Ruin has ground us both down to the ground, hasn't it? It's bigger than us. It's older than us."
"I suppose... it's only natural."
Orion fades away. His quest has ended in failure.
ONWARDS
"This Ruin will not conquer us. We are Explorers! We are heroes!"
"Don't you dare let anyone tell you otherwise."
FINAL ENCOUNTER (AT WUUHEIM'S ASCENT)
FIRST CONVERSATION
"It's beautiful, isn't it?"
"Not just this place. But the whole of the Aeon Ruins. Did you not see its beauty?"
"There is unimaginable despair... but there is hope, also."
"When I looked into that dread sea... I saw it. The truth. Not all of it, but enough."
"Everything dies. Humans. Demons. Gods. Even worlds."
"But being mortal, we fight against death. It is an enemy that we struggle against, swimming against the current."
"And by the time it drags us down, we are so battered and scared that even in death, we cannot find peace."
"And... maybe that's the truth behind life. Accepting death. At least, that's what I'd prefer to believe."
"I know that I could die happy, knowing that I fought beside my hero, and my friend."
LAST CONVERSATION AND ONWARDS
"We go. To meet the object of our fears."
Magic Knight Orion, in the flesh, aids you in the final battle. Whether he lives or dies at your side, it is his final destination.
SIR ISHILD OF TIOLEZ
Profile:
Ishild is an insufferably proud noble of Tiolez, who bribed his way into Knighthood, but had no real desire to serve Tiolez, instead becoming a knight for the ensuing prestige.
Zion quickly became his friend, much to Ishild's chagrin, and practically dragged him into the Aeon Ruins.
He hides out in the Paper Caverns, scavenging for reading material and crafting Soundstones.
Quest:
Ishild has no quest.
DIALOGUE
FIRST CONVERSATION AND ONWARDS (IF A MEMBER OF TIOLEZ)
"God, you're a knight, aren't you?!"
"I can almost smell the chivalry... ugh!"
"Oh, me? No, I'm no one."
"Just leave me alone, you self-righteous nitwit."
FIRST CONVERSATION (IF NOT A MEMBER OF TIOLEZ)
"Ugh... greetings. I am Ishild, of Tiolez."
"Yes, I'm a knight. Don't make a fuss about it."
"I never wanted to come down to this horrible place. Does Zion expect me to dirty my blade?"
"Anyway! I have things to sell, if you have Souls to buy with."
"Buy something, won't you?"
>Unlock buy menu
SECOND CONVERSATION
"There's this strange sense of... 'honor', that saturates Tiolez."
"It's more like madness. Abandoning reason for some idealistic sense of virtue."
"When it comes down to it, no one would truly sacrifice themselves for another."
"True honor comes from class, and poise. I myself am an excellent specimen, if you require an example."
THIRD CONVERSATION
"This whole 'Phantasm' business is just a load of phooey. Just something for everyone to get upset about."
"The world's not going to be destroyed, and everything will be alright."
"Some Kingdoms might be gone, but I'm sure there were more than ten Kingdoms before the Soul Wars, don't you agree?"
"Lives and knowledge may be lost, but we will survive, just as always."
FOURTH CONVERSATION AND ONWARDS (AFTER BUYING ALL SOUNDSTONES)
"Hmm... my load feels a bit lighter. And my purse... a bit heavier."
"I may... venture out from here. Keep an eye out for my sign, I may be willing to grace you with my presence."
"No promises."
SPECIAL DIALOGUE
GREETING
"Alright, let's get this over with. You've got Souls, I've got treasures."
