The Aeon Ruins are populated by Shades, hostile ghosts of the past. They take many forms, some more powerful than others...

RAW SHADES: Souls of the dead, given memories and form by the mysterious Ruins...


Feral Shade

The most basic of Shades. A living shadow that inherited only the basest of human instinct. Fragile, but not to be underestimated. The few features that can be seen on its indistinct form are twisted and deformed, common traits among all sorts of Shades.

Sword And Shield Shade

A Shade manifested from the memories of a common soldier. Its sturdy equipment, a simple shortsword and shield, is actually part of its own body.

Crossbow Shade

A Shade that fires from mid-range with an indistinct crossbow. Up close and cornered, it is nearly defenseless. In desperation, it attempts to bludgeon foes with its crossbow.

Builder Shade

A Shade of the builders who once endlessly built onto the Forsaken Metropolis. They attack with building tools, like saws and hammers.

Lifter Shade

A Shade of the strongmen, who carried the wood that the builders used to make the scaffolding. Their wide swings can easily send Explorers flying, frequently falling to their doom.

Burning Shade

A Shade who is simply on fire. It runs around, ablaze, until it is reduced to ash. Pity it, if you dare.

Deadshade

A Shade whose shadowy matter has been infused into the bones of the dead. It has sharpened finger bones akin to claws, and it is immune to Critical Attacks, instead turning them back on their attacker.

Suicide Shade

A Shade of the nobles of the Necropolis, who threw their lives away to experience the joy of death. It exists only to kill itself again, vanishing as quickly as it is seen.

Spear Shade

A Shade who holds a long spear in a defensive, two-handed stance. They jab from a distance, but can widen their shadowy spear into a lance for vicious charging attacks.

Great Archer Shade

A strange variety of Shade who is armed with a truly massive bow. They fire volley after volley of Great Arrows, but when foes get close, they fire themselves, and strike quickly with a curved blade.

Unreal Shade

A Shade that exists in the periphery of reality. It seems to appear in multiple places at once, and blinks away if it takes damage. Illusions of Unreal Shades fool travelers, making them easy prey for the genuine articles.

Shadow Armor

The poor Shade of an Explorer who died in the Ruins, reanimated by the Souls and memories of the dead. They fight in the armor they wore in life, and their aura denotes their power:
-Orange: This was the Shade of an ordinary knight, who fights valiantly, and can even heal with Light Gels.
-Red: This was the Shade of a powerful Explorer. These variations fight with powerful weapons and spells, and can heal themselves like their lesser brethren.
-Purple: These Shadow Armors fight from a distance, with a barrage of ranged weapons. Up close, they are elusive, but not to be underestimated.

Phantasmagoric Shade

An unstable Shade, overflowing with unruly Souls. Each of its attacks causes a wide burst of phantasmic energy, and siphons Souls away proportional to damage dealt. Though they are among the strongest of Shades, they only have a fraction of the Phantasm's power.

Spectre

A devious Shade that masquerades as the Ghost of another Explorer. It is untouchable until it takes physical form, and attacks.

Bloodshade

A violent red Shade that emerges from lost Bloodstains. Their power is depends on the amount of Souls they hold, which can be reclaimed by defeating them. They only appear in certain areas, as they are repulsed by both the light of Beacons and Shades of great power (Bosses).

Primal Shade

A pitch-black Shade that was created without Souls. Its body is constantly melting, and it can whip its acidic form over foes. It is surprisingly strong for its size, able to send even sturdy knights flying with a single tackle.

Survivor

An echo of those who were callously murdered in the Killing Fields. They desperately cling to life, unaware that they lost it long ago.

Shadow Wolves

Memories of violent death in the wild, given shape. They endlessly pursue their prey in a pack, but sometimes their form mutates wildly, causing extra maws and claws to grow and stretch out in all directions.

Shadowhouse

Countless Shades, crammed so tightly into a house that the building itself animated, tossing itself wildly towards any trespassers. What sort of horrid memory could have spawned this sad thing?

Eternal Warriors

In the Mirage of Strife, Shades of ancient soldiers endlessly fight each other. They cannot be truly killed, but they fight and die repeatedly, arising from the sands infinitely.


Sheol Reapers

Fiendish, nameless things that lurk in the dark of Sheol. They might not have existed outside the Aeon Ruins... but within, they are embodiments of the terror that the prisoners of Sheol felt as they were eaten alive in the deep darkness.

THE MINDLESS: Beasts, or the mad. They lost control a long time ago...


Giant Spider

A gargantuan spider. Its bite is poisonous, and it can ambush from the ceiling with its webs.

Organ Golem

A lump of rotting organs, animated into an insectile form. Spits out stomach acid.

Minotaur

A man-bull who stalks the hedge maze outside the Mansion of Dusk, who carries two hand-axes. Its charging attack means certain death.

Mystic Knight

A giant armor, animated by the age-old enchantments of the Mystics, to loyally guard a library. Tragically, they outlive their masters, still performing the same duties. They wield magical greatswords.

Armor Arm

A gauntlet of a Mystic Knight, animated by the Magic Eaters inside. They are dim creatures, but even they can discern the advantage of armor.

Magic Eater

A small centipede-like creature that devours magic energies for sustenance. The World Eater is a distant cousin.

Lightbugs

Small insects that give off light. Usually peaceful.

Minor Stalker

An infantile Stalker. It enjoys toying with its prey.

Crustacean

Crustacean: A formerly aquatic creature with immense claws. It walks in a strange sideways manner.

Feverish Pyromancer

A Pyromancer who lost control of his own fire, and his own mind was burned out. Attacks with mad flames.

Unholy Man

A cleric who went into the Killing Fields to give last rights to the dead, but was pursued by murderous Ghasts, and went insane.

Luminous Lizards

Small lizards that flee from Explorers, and can bend light to vanish into thin air. Usually have useful Ore embedded in their bodies. They can be found in every Region.

THE SOULLESS: Those who lack their own Soul, but remain alive, animated by some will...


Executioner Ghast

A former human who used to kill those who desired death. But over time, he found a strange glee in killing, and continuously kills all he can find with the giant axe he was issued.

Corpse Master

A demonic mage who animates the dead to protect himself. At long range, he simply tosses corpses.

Husk

What remains when a skeleton is raised out of a corpse. An empty sleeve of skin and muscles, all things of value scavenged away. It moves with a disturbing waviness.

Skeleton Archer

An animated skeleton who fires arrows from a long distance. At short range, it batters enemies with its own rib bones.

Armored Skull

An animated skeleton that has reinforced itself with other bones. It attacks with a rapier-like sharpened bone, and a skull-shield that can bite.

Soulless Ones

Those who had their Souls taken while they were still alive, and survived. With no Soul to sustain them, their minds atrophied, leaving them as husks of their former selves, endlessly hungering for Souls.

Skeleton Chariot

A skeleton riding a chariot made of of distorted bones. It barrels through anything in its path. Could this be a form of recreation for these creatures?

Demi-Lich

A Lich who didn't quite make it. It retains its magical powers, but its body is weak. To protect itself, it summons Shades.

Empty Mystics

The bodies of the Mystics, animated by a fell enchantment. They attack in swarms, with powerful magic attacks. They strike most viciously on those who show fear.

Immortal

Strange humanoids who lack a Soul. Their mouths and throats are ragged, and filled with jagged teeth. Try as you might, you cannot kill them. But they can kill you. They wander through the halls of the Prison of the Immortals, holding a flickering lantern in hand. As they breathe, they make a hoarse whistling sound, alerting you of their presence.


The Embalmed

A wanderer who tried to protect themselves from the Saltstorm by wrapping themselves in bandages. But instead, they suffocated in the thick of it and were mummified.

THE BODILESS: Phantomlike creatures, who lack coherent forms, existing like dreams...


Ash Sprites

A shambling mass of ash, animated by angered spirits. It attacks with soft yet weighty arms, and bursts of flame.

Water Sprites

Nature spirits that create figures out of water, and attack with liquid tentacles. They can vanish into water, and appear anywhere else where water is.

Soul Sparks

A floating Soulmass that explodes when nearing a trespasser. In certain areas, they appear endlessly.

Gel Disaster

A gelatinous monster disguised as a Beacon. It arose when the Light Gel fermenting process went horribly wrong, engulfing both the user of the Beacon and the Beacon itself. If anyone attempts to rest at a Gel Disaster's Beacon, they will be engulfed by it, and heavily damaged.

Cataclysm Lux

A humanoid golem made from corrupted Lux Gels. Rather than hiding like Gel Disasters, they simply appear out of nowhere, and begin to batter their prey with their huge gooey arms.

Drownsouls

Souls that were lost in the Soul Wars. Filled with pain and agony, they seeped into the Sea of Souls, and coalesced into the Phantasm. These Souls are the ones that were left behind. Still enrapt in rage, they attack and pull into the sea anyone trying to cross it. Additionally, these creatures devour the Bloodstain of any they kill.

Wandergod

Ancient Gods, all but forgotten. When the worlds that worshipped them fell into the Ruins, they followed, and have wandered the Sea of Souls ever since, among the broken stone statues of themselves. Lonely and frustrated, the attack with miraculous power if they are disturbed.

HUMANS: Those who remain with Body, Mind, and Soul, but still harbor malevolence...


Hunter

A human hunter who lives in the Wilds. Fled to the Ruins in search of a better life. Attacks with arrows and attack items.

Bandit

A malicious bandit who kills Explorers for fun and Souls. He attacks with a deadly looking axe. Bandits often hide in ambush.

Barbarian

A confused primitive who wandered into the Ruins by mistake. Attacks with sheer physical strength.

Rogue Musketeer

A Musketeer from Qero who kills and plunders without remorse. Fights at close range with rapier and musket.

Cryomancer

A paranoid Cryomancer who rejected the flame. Attacks with powerful Cryomancies that do rare Cold damage.

Graverobber

A thief who plunders the bodies of the dead for treasure and Souls. They cloak themselves with special equipment.
